The Dixie National Forest, Utah's largest, encompasses just under two million acres. During winter the forest service along with state park officials attempt to maintain designated snowmobiling trails. Otherwise you can freelance on the hundreds of miles of old timber roads that fan throughout the forest and access meadows full of mule deer and elk.
Unlike more popular snowmobiling locations rental shops are hard to find, if at all. Some local outfitters, however, do provide guided snowmobile tours through the forest.
